How can I pair my Canon EOS Camera with PhotoSync to transfer photos/videos or enable remote shooting?
After successful pairing you will be able to transfer photos/videos from your Canon EOS camera to your iPhone/iPad over Wi-Fi. For supported Canon EOS models PhotoSync also enables shoot & transfer: Photos & videos are transferred to your iPhone/iPad right after shooting, optionally also immediate transfer to remote locations (Computer, NAS, Cloud) is possible over HDMI & Airplay to a big screen TV.
Requirements
- PhotoSync for iOS 4.0 or higher
- Canon EOS Wi-Fi Camera
Optional
- A Wi-Fi network or mobile hotspot (required for shoot & save to remote targets like Computer, NAS or Cloud)
Step 1
Open the Wi-Fi menu on your Canon EOS camera. Some models have a dedicated Wi-Fi button; otherwise you can reach the Wi-Fi function in the settings menu of your camera (please consult the manual of your camera for further details).
You should get a screen similar to the graphic below:
Select “Connect to smartphone” and confirm your selection either with the “SET” button or use the touchscreen (if available on your camera).
Step 2
In the next screen select „Register a device for connection“ and confirm the selection.
In the „Install Camera Connect“ screen choose „Do not display“ and confirm (this screen might not be displayed on some cameras).
Step 3
The camera will create a Wi-Fi hotspot you can connect your iPhone/iPad to. The connection information (Wi-Fi SSID and password) is now displayed. You will need to enter this password on your iPhone/iPad in the next step.
Attention
You can also alternatively connect your camera to an existing Wi-Fi network. This is required if you want to transfer to a remote location like Computer, NAS or Cloud.
To connect to an existing network touch „Switch network“ and then connect to your existing network. If you have connected to an existing network please continue to Step 5.
Step 4
Take your iPhone/iPad, open the system settings and touch Wi-Fi. Select the „Canon“ (here: EOS200D-048_Canon0A) Wi-Fi network and enter the Wi-Fi password as displayed on your camera screen.
Step 5
Now open PhotoSync, touch the red sync button, touch „Receive“ and select the „Canon EOS Wi-Fi“ target. After a moment PhotoSync will detect your camera. Select your camera (here: Canon EOS 200D).
Step 6
You need to confirm the initial pairing now on your camera. Take your camera and select “OK” on the “Connect to this smartphone” screen. The camera will confirm the pairing.
Step 7
You can now continue on your iPhone/iPad. Select the initial default action on the screen appearing on your iPhone/iPad. You can change the default action also at any time later. Then hit „OK“. The initial pairing is completed!
You can now browse the photos on your camera or shoot & transfer to your iPhone/iPad.
Note: If „Shoot & Backup“ is greyed out and cannot be selected, your camera has no support for this mode.
Connecting to your camera after initial pairing is completed
Pairing has to be done only one time per iPhone/iPad.
To connect to your camera after initial pairing all you need to do is:
- Open the Wi-Fi Menu function on your camera and select the appropriate „PhotoSync“ entry (here: PhotoSync-iPhone): After you have selected the PhotoSync entry you can modify your Wi-Fi settings (e.g., connect to an existing network), if desired.
- Connect the iPhone/iPad to the Wi-Fi network of the camera (not necessary if you have the camera connected to your Wi-Fi router).
- Open PhotoSync, touch „Receive“ and select the Canon EOS Wi-Fi target.
- After your camera has been detected, select it.
